Nominations sought for 12th annual UP Service Awards

MARQUETTE — Grow & Lead: Community and Youth Development is conducting the 12th annual U.P. Service Awards program to honor outstanding volunteers across the Upper Peninsula.

Nominations of volunteers serving anywhere in the U.P. will be accepted through June 12.

“It’s National Volunteer Week, and we’re excited to open this year’s awards in honor of all the amazing volunteers in the U.P.,” said Grow & Lead Associate Linda Remsburg.

“In challenging times like the current pandemic, the importance of volunteers is especially clear. Whether it’s making masks and face shields for health care workers or coordinating efforts to feed families, volunteers are stepping up where needed,” Remsburg said. “Even in better times, volunteers meet critical needs every day that otherwise wouldn’t get met.”

Anyone can make a nomination in the categories of youth, adult and senior volunteer, business community leader and volunteer program.

“We would love to see nominations from all over the peninsula,” Remsburg said.

Nomination forms can be submitted online at glcyd.org/serviceawards or downloaded from the website and mailed to Grow & Lead’s office at 712 Chippewa Square, Suite 200, Marquette, MI 49855.

Award recipients will be honored during a luncheon at the U.P. Nonprofit Conference at Northern Michigan University in Marquette on Oct. 22. Recipients are invited to take part in the entire conference compliments of Grow & Lead.

All nominees will receive a letter of thanks and certificate of recognition for their volunteer contributions.
