Marsicek to lead 2nd Weather Wing Group

U.S. Air Force Col. Michael A. Marsicek

OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. — Col. Michael A. Marsicek, U.S. Air Force, on June 24 assumed command of the 2nd Weather Group, 557th Weather Wing, at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska.

Marsicek, a native and former resident of Wilson, is the son of Charles and Lucille Marsicek.

Promoted to colonel in December of 2019, Marsicek will now lead more than 550 active duty, civil service and contract personnel comprised of six squadrons and eight geographically separated units on 3 continents. The group operates and sustains the Air Force’s $323 million strategic weather enterprise supercomputer, delivering decision-quality, authoritative space and terrestrial environmental intelligence to support Air Force, Space Force, Army and Joint operations.

They integrate weather, climate and space environmental services across Department of Defense, the Interagency and International Partners ensuring environmental intelligence, models and technology informs decision makers during planning and operations across the spectrum of national security objectives. Marsicek received his commission through the Air Force Officer Training School at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, where he was selected as honor graduate in April 1999.

An Air Force Weather and Environmental Sciences Officer, he enjoys a diverse background that includes prior weather enlisted experience, selection to the Air Force Intern Program and completion of three masters’ degrees in the arts and sciences.

He has provided weather and current operations support to missions ranging from the space shuttle to rotary, combat, heavy airlift and intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance aircraft.

Marsicek is married to the former Sheri Davis of St. Charles, Miss. They have two children, Brittany and Jacob.
