Florence County advises about another exposure site

The region had a relatively quiet day Thursday for new COVID-19 cases, though local health officials did add another positive in Dickinson County.

The new case raises Dickinson County’s total to 61, according to the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department.

Elsewhere in the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 data site Thursday indicated three new positives in Marquette County and one new case each in Alger and Mackinac counties. The new Dickinson County case, posted on the DIDHD’s Facebook page, had not yet been added to the state figures.

On the Wisconsin side of the region, that state’s COVID-19 data site showed seven new positives in Marinette County and six each in Iron and Vilas counties.

Florence County health officials have advised about another potential COVID-19 exposure from a positive case who was at Maxsell’s restaurant Aug. 13. Michigan and Wisconsin public health staff now are working to trace close contacts, the health department posted on its Facebook page. The department also listed 18 positives, one more than the state. Of those, six are still active and 12 have recovered.

Also on Facebook, Wisconsin’s Forest County’s total rose by one Thursday to 63, while Vilas County’s tally reached 84, up five from Monday’s total.

For the Upper Peninsula, the MDHHS COVID-19 data site Thursday had Keweenaw County with two confirmed cases; Luce County, four confirmed cases; Baraga County, six confirmed cases and two probable; Schoolcraft County, 13 confirmed cases and one probable; Alger County, 16 confirmed and two probable; Mackinac County, 23 confirmed cases and six probable; Iron County, 23 confirmed cases and one death; Ontonagon County, 28 confirmed and one probable; Chippewa County, 33 confirmed cases and 14 probable; Houghton County, 48 confirmed cases and nine probable; Dickinson County, 59 confirmed cases, one probable and two deaths; Delta County, 97 confirmed cases, 24 probable and three deaths; Gogebic County, 128 confirmed cases, nine probable and a death; Menominee County, 177 confirmed cases and 31 probable; and Marquette County, 195 confirmed cases, 28 probable and 11 deaths. State numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS also earlier separately had prison inmates who were positive in Luce and Chippewa counties.

Using state figures Thursday, the Upper Peninsula has had 854 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 18 deaths.

The MDHHS reported 419 confirmed new COVID-19 cases in Michigan on Thursday for a total of 94,697 to date. The state added 19 new deaths Thursday — including 11 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — for a total of 6,368.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Thursday had Marinette County with 530 cases and five deaths; Iron County 98 cases and one death; Vilas County 89 cases; Forest County 62 cases and four deaths; and Florence County 17 cases. As with the Michigan data, the state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin recorded 740 new positives in the state Thursday for a total of 68,233 to date, according to the state DHS data site. The state had seven new COVID-19 deaths Thursday for a total of 1,067.

According to the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department, Dickinson County as of Thursday has had 61 confirmed COVID-19 positives, with 38 recovered, two deaths and 21 cases still active. Iron County has had 23 positives, with 10 recovered, one death and 12 still active.

Dickinson County Healthcare System as of Wednesday showed 19 cases from Dickinson County and 23 cases from other counties; those counties are not identified. DCHS has tested 2,843 people for COVID-19, with 42 positive, 2,755 negative and 46 results still pending. DCHS noted there are several additional sources of testing in Dickinson County.
