Menominee, Marinette add total of 38 new virus cases in area

State health officials listed 17 new COVID-19 positives this weekend for Menominee County, while Marinette County across the border in Wisconsin reportedly has 21 additional cases recorded this weekend, according to state data sites.

The Upper Peninsula had 44 new positives posted on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 data site this weekend: the 17 in Menominee County, nine in Delta County, five in Gogebic County, four in Marquette County, three in Ontonagon County, two each in Iron and Schoolcraft counties and one each in Houghton and Chippewa counties.

Along with the 21 new cases, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site indicated a sixth death in Marinette County. For other Wisconsin counties in the region, the site showed eight new positives in Iron County, two in Vilas County and one each in Florence and Forest counties.

For the Upper Peninsula, the MDHHS COVID-19 data site Sunday had Keweenaw County with two confirmed cases; Luce County, four confirmed cases; Baraga County, six confirmed cases and two probable; Schoolcraft County, 14 confirmed cases and one probable; Alger County, 16 confirmed and two probable; Mackinac County, 23 confirmed cases and eight probable; Iron County, 25 confirmed cases and one death; Ontonagon County, 31 confirmed and one probable; Chippewa County, 34 confirmed cases and 14 probable; Houghton County, 49 confirmed cases and nine probable; Dickinson County, 60 confirmed cases, one probable and two deaths; Delta County, 106 confirmed cases, 29 probable and three deaths; Gogebic County, 133 confirmed cases, 10 probable and a death; Menominee County, 194 confirmed cases and 29 probable; and Marquette County, 199 confirmed cases, 31 probable and 11 deaths. State numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS also earlier separately had prison inmates who were positive in Luce and Chippewa counties.

Using state figures Sunday, the Upper Peninsula has had 898 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 18 deaths.

The MDHHS reported 953 confirmed new COVID-19 cases in Michigan on Saturday and 768 on Sunday for a total of 96,792 to date. The state added 11 new deaths Saturday — including eight that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — and four new deaths Sunday for a total of 6,393.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Sunday had Marinette County with 563 cases and six deaths; Iron County 106 cases and one death; Vilas County 90 cases; Forest County 64 cases and four deaths; and Florence County 19 cases. As with the Michigan data, the state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin recorded 950 new positives in the state Saturday and 453 on Sunday for a total of 70,462 to date, according to the state DHS data site. The state had 13 new COVID-19 deaths Saturday but none on Sunday for a total of 1,081.

According to the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department, Dickinson County as of Friday has had 61 confirmed COVID-19 positives, with 39 recovered, two deaths and 20 cases still active. Iron County has had 25 positives, with 10 recovered, one death and 14 still active.

Dickinson County Healthcare System as of Friday showed 19 cases from Dickinson County and 24 cases from other counties; those counties are not identified. DCHS has tested 2,916 people for COVID-19, with 43 positive, 2,811 negative and 62 results still pending. DCHS noted there are several additional sources of testing in Dickinson County.
