A note about obituaries in today’s Daily News

Today’s Daily News likely will come as a shock: four pages containing obituaries or death notices for 23 people.

It is more space devoted to deaths than any one issue of The Daily News has had in decades, if ever. It caps a week of obituaries spilling over from the usual page 2-A location to 3-A.

While only a few mention COVID-19 as cause of death, it’s difficult not to wonder, hearing reports from the public — even among staff — of relatives and friends fatally stricken. Or getting telephone calls from area residents worried about family members in care facilities known to have virus cases.

It forced some news to be placed out of their usual locations in the printed version of the newspaper. The index in the print version has been adjusted.
