Seven new COVID cases in Iron, four in Dickinson

Iron County had seven new confirmed COVID-19 positives and Dickinson County four more cases, local health officials reported Wednesday.

On its Facebook page, the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department also posted seven new recoveries from the virus in Dickinson County and two recoveries in Iron County.

The DIDHD on Wednesday listed Dickinson County at 2,079 confirmed positives and 222 probable cases, with 2,032 recovered, 67 deaths and 202 cases still active. For Iron County, the DIDHD showed 838 confirmed cases and 63 probables, with 759 recovered, 35 deaths and 107 still active.

Across the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 data site Wednesday added 74 confirmed positives: 14 in Marquette County, 13 in Alger County, 11 in Houghton County, seven each in Delta and Iron counties, five each in Menominee and Ontonagon counties, four each in Dickinson and Gogebic counties, two in Chippewa County, and one each in Baraga and Mackinac counties. Ontonagon County had a new death, while Gogebic County’s number of deaths was reduced by one.

In total for the U.P., the MDHHS data site Wednesday listed Keweenaw County at 97 confirmed cases and 23 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 129 confirmed cases and 71 probable; Schoolcraft County, 225 confirmed cases and 23 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 249 confirmed, 146 probable and one death, two probable; Mackinac County, 272 confirmed cases and 139 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 297 confirmed, 30 probable and 16 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 482 confirmed cases, 90 probable and 29 deaths; Chippewa County, 673 confirmed cases and 988 probable, and 16 deaths, two probable; Gogebic County, 792 confirmed cases and 308 probable, 15 confirmed deaths and 24 probable; Iron County, 836 confirmed cases and 62 probable, 32 confirmed deaths and six probable; Menominee County, 1,562 confirmed cases, 247 probable and 34 deaths, two probable; Houghton County, 1,895 confirmed cases, 462 probable, 27 confirmed deaths and seven probable; Dickinson County, 2,076 confirmed cases and 219 probable, 56 confirmed deaths and 14 probable; Delta County, 2,587 confirmed cases and 449 probable, 61 confirmed deaths and 18 probable; and Marquette County, 3,356 confirmed cases, 466 probable and 53 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 15,528 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 348 deaths.

The MDHHS on Wednesday listed 2,031 confirmed new COVID-19 positives in Michigan for a total of 542,146. The state added 40 new deaths Wednesday to reach 13,905.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Wednesday showed 10 new confirmed positives in Marinette County, three each in Iron and Vilas counties, and one in Florence County. Marinette County had a new death as well.

The DHS on Wednesday had Marinette County with 3,815 confirmed cases, 362 probable cases and 56 deaths; Vilas County, 1,818 confirmed, 96 probable and 31 deaths, two probable deaths; Forest County, 894 confirmed, 66 probable and 22 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 451 confirmed, 112 probable and 19 deaths, 17 probable; and Florence County, 417 confirmed, 31 probable and 12 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 1,522 new positives Wednesday for a total of 525,924 confirmed COVID-19 cases. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services listed 50 deaths in the state Wednesday to reach 5,562.
