DIDHD: Area adults over 65 fully vaccinated go above 40%

More than 40% of residents older than 65 in Dickinson and Iron counties have now received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, local health officials reported.

That news comes as Michigan on Monday made all residents age 50 and older eligible for the coronavirus vaccine regardless of health history, along with those 18 or older with disabilities or medical conditions that puts them at high risk.

The highest percentage to complete the vaccine series locally was 48.7%, or 982, of adults age 65 to 74 in Iron County, according to the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department. In Dickinson County, 45.4%, or 1,434, age 65 to 74 had finished the series. The numbers for age 75 and older were 44.8%, or 681, in Iron County and 43.6%, or 1,132, in Dickinson.
