Few new COVID-19 cases in UP, area counties in Wisconsin

Upper Peninsula counties again showed very little COVID-19 activity Saturday, with state health data listing a total of only 10 new confirmed positives.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 site had four new cases in Delta and Houghton counties; two in Chippewa County; and one each in Marquette, Menominee and Keweenaw counties; the state also reduced Schoolcraft County’s counties count by two and Ontonagon County’s count by one.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Saturday has had 16,408 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 383 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Saturday had Keweenaw County at 115 confirmed cases and 28 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 132 confirmed cases and 86 probable, one probable death; Schoolcraft County, 229 confirmed cases and 28 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 277 confirmed, 157 probable and one death, four probable; Mackinac County, 290 confirmed cases and 151 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 358 confirmed, 52 probable and 19 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 507 confirmed cases, 99 probable and 32 deaths; Chippewa County, 722 confirmed cases and 1,031 probable, and 23 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 866 confirmed cases and 61 probable, 40 confirmed deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 928 confirmed cases and 340 probable, 19 confirmed deaths and 28 probable; Menominee County, 1,616 confirmed cases, 263 probable and 35 deaths, two probable; Houghton County, 2,127 confirmed cases, 521 probable, 33 confirmed deaths and eight probable; Dickinson County, 2,131 confirmed cases and 240 probable, 55 confirmed deaths and 14 probable; Delta County, 2,654 confirmed cases and 476 probable, 65 confirmed deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 3,456 confirmed cases, 496 probable and 54 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS posted 1,156 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan on Saturday for a total of 587,581. The state added 68 new deaths Saturday — including 62 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — to reach 15,522.

The MDHHS no longer updates state COVID-19 figures on Sundays.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site for the weekend had 17 new confirmed positives in Vilas County, two each in Marinette and Iron counties and one in Forest County; Florence County’s count was lowered by one.

The DHS on Sunday had Marinette County with 3,981 confirmed cases, 383 probable cases and 63 deaths, three probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,136 confirmed, 124 probable and 36 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 925 confirmed, 69 probable and 23 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 541 confirmed, 117 probable and 20 deaths, 19 probable; and Florence County, 434 confirmed, 34 probable and 12 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 689 new positives Saturday and 464 on Sunday for a total of 563,960 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded 13 new deaths Saturday but none Sunday — the second straight Sunday with no new deaths — to reach 6,412.
