State adds 5 new virus cases in Iron, 3 in Dickinson

State COVID-19 data Saturday showed five more confirmed COVID-19 positives in Iron County and three in Dickinson County.

For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website Saturday listed 64 new confirmed cases: 22 in Delta County; 19 in Marquette County; five in Menominee and Iron counties; three in Dickinson County; two in Gogebic, Mackinac and Chippewa counties; and one each in Baraga, Luce, Keweenaw and Houghton counties. Delta County had the only new death.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Saturday has had 18,401 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 404 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Saturday had Keweenaw County at 136 confirmed cases and 31 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 160 confirmed cases and 159 probable, one probable death; Schoolcraft County, 275 confirmed cases and 50 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 299 confirmed, 182 probable and one death, four probable; Mackinac County, 364 confirmed cases and 215 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 388 confirmed, 56 probable and 20 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 533 confirmed cases, 111 probable and 33 deaths; Iron County, 909 confirmed cases and 62 probable, 42 deaths and nine probable; Chippewa County, 969 confirmed cases and 1,290 probable, and 27 deaths, five probable; Gogebic County, 994 confirmed cases and 358 probable, 22 deaths and 28 probable; Menominee County, 1,702 confirmed cases, 302 probable and 39 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,305 confirmed cases and 291 probable, 56 deaths and 16 probable; Houghton County, 2,394 confirmed cases, 587 probable, 32 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,041 confirmed cases and 568 probable, 68 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 3,932 confirmed cases, 729 probable and 56 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Saturday posted 5,530 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total to date of 785,307. The state recorded 69 new deaths Saturday — including 60 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — to reach 16,840.

The state no longer updates its virus figures on Sundays.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site this weekend had two new confirmed positives in Marinette County and one each in Florence and Forest counties.

The DHS on Sunday had Marinette County with 4,048 confirmed cases, 430 probable cases and 65 deaths, three probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,221 confirmed, 144 probable and 39 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 945 confirmed, 77 probable and 23 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 571 confirmed, 117 probable and 21 deaths, 19 probable; and Florence County, 442 confirmed, 53 probable and 12 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 727 new positives Saturday and 518 on Sunday for a total of 590,458 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state listed eight new deaths Saturday but reduced that count by two Sunday to stand at 6,709.
