Norway-Vulcan Middle School has Recognition Day for eighth-graders

NORWAY — Norway-Vulcan Middle School Class of 2025 eighth-grade students were honored for their accomplishments during their middle school years at a Recognition Day program June 3 in the Norway Fine Arts Center.

The class selected “Marching #UKNIGHTED” as the theme for this year’s program. Jayda Hunter served as mistress of ceremonies and welcomed family, friends and faculty. Paige Roberts led the Pledge of Allegiance. A thank you to Hunter for leading the Pledge of Allegiance throughout the school year for the entire building.

Academic awards were presented by Principal Rico Meneghini. Students who received academic awards were selected by eighth-grade teachers based on effort, accomplishment and contribution to class. This was followed by student council awards. Meneghini then awarded the President’s Academic Excellence Gold Awards and President’s Academic Achievement Silver Awards.

The Class of 2025 address was written and read by Anthony Gallino. This was followed by an I-Movie memory, “Marching #UKNIGHTED on to High School,” created by Paige Roberts, Trent Orshal and Nathanial Connor.

Students received the Presidential Gold Award for Educational Excellence. This award is based on grades earned — students must have a 3.5 or better grade-point average in four consecutive grading periods in order to receive this award. (Quarter 1, Quarter 2, Semester 1 and Quarter 3) These students received this award: Bryce Adams, Landon Amundson, Cole Baij, Mary Cavagnetto, Nathanial Conner, Cole Davy, Dallas DeBernardi, Sean Dowrick, Anna Falk, Anthony Gallino, Jayda Hunter, Erin Masselink, Sadie Powell, Paige Roberts, Grace Schiltz and Mason Trudeau.

Students received the Presidential Silver Award for Educational Achievement. This award is given to students who have a 3.0 to 3.49 GPA for four consecutive grading periods. (Quarter 1, Quarter 2, Semester 1 and Quarter 3) Students achieving this honor were Rose Bekkala, Deanna Deyo, Tanner Finley, Andrew Hautamaki, Carsyn Moore, Evan Moyer, Lucas Robertson and Destiny Spade.

Certificates of promotion were presented to all 45 students by Meneghini; superintendent Lou Steigerwald; and Zach Fix, social studies teacher. The students are: Bryce Adams, Landon Amundson, Brandon Augustine, Cole Baij, Rose Bekkala, Harley Benz, Emma Cavagnetto, Mary Cavagnetto, Christopher Christy, Nathanial Conner, Brock Davenport, Cole Davy, Dallas DeBernardi, Deanna Deyo, Jayden Dittrich, Sean Dowrick, Anna Falk, Tanner Finley, Anthony Gallino, Gabriel Garcia, Andrew Hautamaki, Jayda Hunter, Owen Kjell, Jaden Lewis, Erin Masselink, Norah Mauro, Perry Miller, Carsyn Moore, Evan Moyer, Alivia Nord, Ethan Olkkonen, Trent Orshal, Zachary Paris, Sadie Powell, Mariah Richards, Abbigail Richter, Paige Roberts, Lucas Robertson, Grace Schiltz, Destiny Spade, Issah Spruce, Lucas Thomas, Mason Trudeau, Tobias Verley and Faith Wedin.
