Community read and book discussion planned

MENOMINEE — The M&M Area Community Foundation invites the community to attend a book discussion hosted by their Women’s Giving Circle Steering Committee in partnership with the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Marinette Campus.

The book “Evicted” by Matthew Desmond will be the topic. The discussion will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, at the UW-Green Bay Marinette Campus Library. No RSVP is required. Refreshments will be served.

Desmond followed eight families in Milwaukee as they each struggled to keep a roof over their head. The book can transform the understanding of poverty and economic exploitation while providing fresh ideas for solving one of the 21st century’s most devastating problems.

“Over the years, the Women’s Giving Circle Steering Committee has addressed issues impacting our communities. Affordable housing is one of the top issues. Without dependable housing, people cannot fully participate in their community. Healthy food choices, consistent healthcare, mail, stable education, and natural support systems all rely on consistent housing,” said Pam Losinski, chair of the Women’s Giving Circle Steering Committee.

Community members also are encouraged to join the Women’s Giving Circle, which currently has more than 200 members. By becoming a member, your donation is combined with contributions from others and added to the Women’s Giving Circle Restricted Endowment Fund. As the fund grows, so does the ability to award more grants to area nonprofits.
