Northwoods Beekeepers members Bernie Driggs and Penny Bowser will give a presentation “From the Hive to the Candle” on Saturday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain. To attend, call and register at 906-774-1218.

IRON MOUNTAIN –The Dickinson County Library and the Northwoods Beekeepers will have “From the Hive to the Candle,” the second installment in a three-part series on beekeeping, from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the main library in Iron Mountain.

Registration in advance is required for this program. To register, call the Iron Mountain library at 906-774-1218.

Penny Bowser and Bernie Driggs, both longtime beekeepers and candlemakers, will present an interactive workshop on using beeswax to create un“bee”lievable gifts this holiday season, including candles, soaps, salves and more.

For thousands of years, beeswax has been known to have healing powers when used in salves, ointments, and medicines. Using a tried-and-true recipe, adults and teens will learn how to make beeswax lip balm that will not only soothe but help heal cracked lips.

The Northwoods Beekeepers, based in Iron Mountain, is a network of beekeepers on the border of northeast Wisconsin and the southcentral portion of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

They share information and resources to keep bees healthy and productive. They meet monthly February through October. For more information, the group can be contacted by email at borderlandbeeks@gmail.com.

The Dickinson County Library helps the community find its story through materials, programs, and services for all ages.
