Florence announces 3 scholarship winners

TRINITY CHRISTMAS

FLORENCE, Wis. — Florence High School is proud to announce a slate of 2023 seniors who have been awarded local scholarships from generous donors for their continuing education.

The remaining local Dollars for Scholars awards will be announced separately.)

Two $500 Forever Young Memorial Scholarships are offered in memory of FHS students Paige Raspor and Isabella Burrows, who are remembered for their love of sports and the arts. These scholarships have been awarded to Trinity Christmas and Caitlyn Kelley.

Christmas is the daughter of Nikki Kletschka and Shaun Christmas of Spread Eagle. Her talents in choir and show choir have earned her vocal awards throughout high school. She has enjoyed participating in the annual volleyball tournaments and hanging out with her friends.

Christmas will attend the Empire Beauty School in Green Bay this fall to earn a cosmetology certificate.

CAITLYN KELLEY

Kelley is the daughter of Ed and D’Nelle Kelley of Florence. She is the 2023 FHS valedictorian. Her athletic ability is evident in her two-time WIAA State Wrestling Champion titles, and she has also been named a two-time Academic All State award winner, ASA photographer of the year, and a HOPE Creative Writing Contest winner.

Kelley plans to attend the University of Stevens Point to pursue a degree in biology, leading to a career as a physician assistant.

This year the Florence County Land Scholarship in Memory of Robert R. Peterson in the amount of $5,247.07, was awarded to Caitlyn Kelley.

Florence County School District is honored to receive scholarship funding for a Florence High School senior with aspirations to continue their post secondary studies in the natural sciences and pursue a degree in fisheries, wildlife, forestry, soils, geology, biology, or environmental studies.

In order to qualify for consideration, eligible seniors were required to submit as part of their application an outline of their high school achievements and future plans in their chosen field.

EVAN JOHNSON

The Tim Touchett Legacy Scholarship was established in 2015, in memory of former FHS graduate Staff Sgt Tim Touchett who passed away in 2014 after complications from surgery meant to embolize an arteriovenous fistula that ruptured near his brain stem.

This year the Touchett family has awarded their $1500 scholarship to Evan Johnson.

He is the son of Amy and Kris Johnson of Florence. He has represented FHS all across the sporting arena, earning 10 varsity letters throughout his high school career.

His selection to the National Honor Society has allowed him to serve his school and community for the past three years, along with representing his peers on the student council.

Johnson plans to attend Elmhurst University to play baseball and pursue a degree in sports management.

Money is raised for this scholarship through an annual corn-hole tournament held every summer in Delavan, Wis. Touchett embodied what it means to be a servant-leader, and believed that through service to others, one can truly embark on a leadership role to motivate and inspire. His family offers this scholarship in the hope that this spirit will continue on through young people who share his mindset and deep commitment to the service of others.
