Halloween-related events gear up as holiday nears

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Halloween season is near and the local area is ready to celebrate. Many area organizations, businesses, churches and schools have planned a variety of family-friendly holiday events and activities through the season. They include:

TODAY

— The First Covenant Church of Iron Mountain will conduct its Pumpkinfest from 6 to 8 p.m. They will feature trunk or treating, pumpkin painting, games and snacks.

— Area residents have been summoned to the annual Halloween Lightshow and Haunted House at 5003 U.S. 2 in Florence, Wis. The show runs from 7 to 10 p.m. The walk-through is open Thursdays through Sundays. Vehicles can tune to 95.5 FM for music to the light show as they drive through the display. There is no charge for admission.

FRIDAY

— The Haunted Barn, hosted by the Friends of the Dickinson County Fair, has reopened for another Halloween season at the fairgrounds in Norway. The upper level of the main exhibition building at the Dickinson County fairgrounds has been transformed into a haunted pathway. Hours are: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday; 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday; and noon to 3 p.m. Sunday. They will also be open from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31. Cost is $10 for live prop nights and $5 for daytime events. Proceeds will be used to go towards improvements to the fairgrounds.

— It’s family flashlight night at Loud Acres Farm in Crystal Falls. Everyone of all ages is invited from 7 to 9:30 p.m. for Halloween fun. Admission is $5 per person, and 3 and younger are free. They will have snacks and hot cocoa available. On Saturday, they will host its Field of Screams and The Forgotten from 7 to 10 p.m. Cost is $15 per victim. — The Haunted Trail, presented by Deadfall Productions, is back and just got a whole lot scarier. They will be open from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and Friday, Oct. 31 and Saturday, Nov. 1. A kids day is set from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday. The trail is located at W10877 County Road C, behind the Firelane Bar in Athelstane, Wis. Tickets will be sold at the concessions building. While waiting for a scare, cozy up by the bonfire and enjoy treats.

SATURDAY

— Swanson’s Big Red Barn in Niagara, Wis., has opened for the annual Pumpkin Fest. The public is invited from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday to enjoy games, a pumpkin patch, kid’s rides, corn maze, jumping pillow and pedal cars. They also have a food, bakery and coffee shop. Admission, which includes all activities, is $3 for ages 1-3, $13 for ages 4-14 and $4 for ages 15 and older. The barn is at 7484 Valerio Road in Niagara.

— Kids ages 12 and younger are invited to the annual Family Halloween Party from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the West Iron District Library in Iron River. Children are encouraged to dress in costume. They will offer games for prizes and pass out candy.

— Area youth can take part in the Halloween Costume Walk from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in downtown Iron River. Participating businesses will be posted with a flyer welcoming children to come for a visit.

— The Iron Mountain Downtown Development Authority will host its fourth-annual Pumpkin Walk and Trunk and Treat from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Systems Control stage and parking lot on Iron Mountain Street, across from the Dickinson County Library. Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson and First National Bank & Trust once again will be co-presenting sponsors. The costume contest begins at 1 p.m. at the stage. Categories include ages 0-9; ages 10-17; adults; and teams for all ages. Prizes will be awarded. D’s Creative Faces offers free face painting and glitter tattoos for kids who stop at her booth. The DDA will also conduct a Trunk and Halloween Window Decorating Contests. Anyone interested in signing up for either can go to https://downtownironmountain.com/pumpkin-walk. The Dickinson County Library is bringing back the Ghoulie Glowing Golfing for kids of all ages. The library will also have several Halloween-themed activities.

— Iron County Medical Care Facility will present a Spooktacular Halloween event from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday in the Birch dining room. Residents will hand out candy, and staff will have designated fun stations that will include activities, prizes, snacks and more for the kids. Bring your little ghouls and goblins for an afternoon full of treats, smiles, and memories at ICMCF.

— The family is invited to Florence Health Services, at 5778 Chapin St., from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday for a fang-tastic celebration at the Trunk or Treat event.

— Get those costumes ready for an early run for some family-friendly Halloween fun on Saturday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Quinnesec. Along with the trunk or treat that will run from 3 to 5 p.m., they will have games, prizes, food and other activities for the kids. The church is on Lincoln Avenue next to the Quinnesec Park. All are welcome to the free event.

— The Candy Bash on the Hill returns to Crystal Falls. The Crystal Falls Business Association invites children to enjoy trick-or-treating from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at participating businesses. In addition to local businesses dishing out treats, the Friends of the Crystal Falls District Community Library will pass out Halloween-themed books for children ages 0 to 18. The library will have a Halloween Story House at 10 a.m. Saturday. The Crystal Theatre will also present a double feature with “The Forbidden Planet” and “Tremors,” starting at 5 p.m. Movies are by donations that will go to the Forest Park Robotics Teams.

— Amberg Parks and Recreation will host a Trunk or Treat event from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Amberg Ball Diamond. The festivities are free to area children. They will also have free hot dogs for the first 400 visitors. Sign up can be done on the Amberg Parks & Recreation Facebook page or by email to ambergparksandrec@gmail.com.

— Travel to GR8 North Storage in Goodman, Wis., for its second-annual trunk or treat from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday. Costumes are encouraged. They will have free chili, hot dogs and hot chocolate. Anyone interested in reserving a spot can call or text 715-929-0117. The site is at W15848 U.S. 8.

SUNDAY

— The Crossroads Alliance in Norway invited the community for the annual Trunk or Treat on Sunday in the parking lot of the home of Grace Methodist and Bethany Lutheran Churches at 130 Odill Drive. Children can visit candy stations from 1 to 3 p.m. Several of the trunks will be decorated and participants will be in costume to make the event festive. They will also have food and games for the kids.

— An annual Beechwood Halloween party is planned from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the hall, 178 Beechwood Store Road in Iron River. Children, as well as adults, are welcome to come enjoy the free festivities, including candy bags, snacks, games and prizes. They will also have a costume contest. The event is sponsored by the Beechwood Historical Society.

— It’s trick or treat time in the Circle. The third-annual Halloween Trunk or Treat in Alpha is set from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Everyone invited to bring their little monsters for an afternoon of trick or treating, games and food vendors, including Banaltras, Boujie Beverages and Sugar Jets. Costumes are encouraged. Those who want to distribute treats are still welcome. Anyone interested can contact the Alpha Brewing Co. at 920-358-9551, email sfred@alphamibeer.com or message on their Facebook page. The first 20 sign-ups will be entered to win an Alpha Brewery gift card.

— Victorian Pines Assisted Living, 800 E. Grant St. in Iron Mountain, has planned a Trunk or Treat event for the children in the community from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday. The free, family-friendly evening is designed to give kids a safe and fun way to enjoy Halloween. They welcome everyone to stop by in costume and collect treats from decorated car trunks, all while enjoying the festive atmosphere with the residents. Anyone who would like to volunteer and decorate a car trunk for the kids, can contact Brandy or Stacey at 906-774-5158 to sign up.

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 29

— The Days Inn in Iron Mountain will host its first Trunk or Treat event from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29. They will turn the back parking lot into a Halloween wonderland with decorated trunks, treats and family-friendly fun. Everyone in the community is invited.

THURSDAY, OCT. 30

— The Niagara Community Trunk or Treat is planned from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, in the front parking lot of Maryhill Manor. Anyone who would like to participate or reserve a spot for a trunk can contact Stacy Schinderle at sschinderle@maryhillmanor.org. Participants must supply their own candy to hand-out. They also asked for non-scary decorations and costumes. Maryhill is also accepting candy donations for their residents and staff to hand out during the event.

— Norway-Vulcan Area School students are invited to the PTO’s fifth-annual trunk or treat from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, in the upper parking lot near entrance L. The event is free to the NVAS staff and students. Sugar Jets food truck will also be onsite. Candy donations are being accepted by the Candy Monster next to the elementary office.

FRIDAY, OCT. 31

— Norway Elementary costume parade will show off their costumes to the community starting at 2 p.m. Friday. Students will march down to Main Street and make a loop back to the school. If inclement weather, the parade will take place in the Fine Arts Center.

— Hit up the Grace Covenant Church in Iron River from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Friday for its family-fun Halloween event as you trick or treat. They will pass out candy and popcorn, and offer hot chocolate and coffee to warm up. Activities will be in the back parking lot.

— The Wausaukee, Wis., community is invited to a Trunk or Treat event hosted by Raindrop Roofing LLC and Whitman’s Elite Detail, from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at The Message Community Church, N12094 U.S. 141. They will have candy, games and dinner.

— Breitung Township Fire Department will host its annual open house during trick-or-treat hours from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the fire station in Quinnesec. They will have candy, kid’s games and a bounce house, chili and hot dogs. Attendees are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to the open house.

— Sagola Township will present its Trunk or Treat Friday, Oct. 31, at the Sagola Township Pavilion. Kids can collect candy from 5:30 to 7 p.m. They are encouraging community members to come to decorate their trunks in a kid-friendly manner and park at the pavilion before 5:30 p.m. A $50 BP gift card will be given to the best decorated trunk. They will also serve cocoa and juice.

— The Sand Lot in Niagara, Wis., invited area families to the Boo Party on Friday, Oct. 31. From 5 to 7 p.m., they will have trunk or treating, family games, costume contest and the Reflections Band performing. A co-ed volleyball tournament takes place from 6 to 10 p.m. At 7 p.m. they will feature an outdoor movie along with bonfire, popcorn, food and beverages.

— Local youth are invited to “Hide & Seek from the Police” on Friday, Oct. 31. The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office welcomes kids 10-17 for a fun and safe Halloween evening at the Dickinson County fairgrounds in Norway. Participants will have the opportunity to play a large-scale game of hide and seek with local first responders. Prizes will be awarded to the top three hiders in each age group. Registration will take place from 8 to 8:30 p.m. Parents are required to sign a waiver at the time of registration, even if their child has preregistered. You can pre-register using the sheriff’s app, by going into the “Contact Us” portion — Enter in the child/children’s name, age and parent’s name, along with e-mail address and under comments add “Hide and Seek.” They will also provide free hot dogs, chips, cookies, apple cider, and hot cocoa.

SATURDAY, NOV. 1

— The North Central Area Schools Parent Network will host its annual Halloween Carnival for Menominee County area kids from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the North Central Elementary School gym in Hermansville. There will be spooky fun and games, along with food and beverage available. Admission is free and they will be collecting non-perishable foods to distribute in the school district.

SUNDAY, NOV. 2

— Families can take a ride to The Long Branch in Faithorn for their annual trunk or treat event. Kids can enjoy visiting candy stations from 3 to 5 p.m. They will have hot dogs, brats, chips, and hot chocolate at no cost. Everyone is welcome to come and decorate their trunk and pass out candy to have some fun. There will be a prize for the best trunk and a free drink for anyone who decorates their trunk.
