IRON MOUNTAIN – The Dickinson County Community Chorus will present “The Sounds of Christmas” concert at 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday in the Kingsford High School Auditorium.
Advance tickets are only available at The Music Tree until 2 p.m. today.
Tickets then will be sold on the day of the performances starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Kingsford High School Auditorium box office.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students, check or cash only. Updates on ticket availability will be posted online at The Daily News, the DCCC website at http://www.communitychorus.org/ and on the DCCC Facebook page.
The audience will be let in to start seating for each performance at 6:15 p.m. In case of a sell out, the public is welcome to wait in the hall outside the auditorium; and may be seated after all ticket holders are admitted depending on available space. The DCCC said seats often become available due to returned tickets, illness or various circumstances prevent ticket holders from attending.
The DCCC asks that single seats not be left open — audience members should sit shoulder-to-shoulder with other parties in your row so ticket-buyers who arrive later can find open seats together. Ushers will assist and may ask people to move down the row to fill empty single seats.
The theme will be “The Christmas Star!” Throughout the concert, the chorus will celebrate the meaning of the star at Christmas time. Historically, stars have been crucial for navigation. Often, the brightest stars are the stars that not only shine most brightly in the darkness leading the way, but they are also a symbol of hope or inner strength through difficult times. The lyrics from one of the songs states, “Do not despair, your star is still there.”
“We have planned an outstanding selection of music that will be exciting for singers and audience alike,” principal conductor Crystal Hogan said.
This year marks the 59th anniversary of The Dickinson County Community Chorus. The chorus is under the direction of Hogan and accompanied on piano by Jean Panek, Karen McCorkle and Sandy Sullivan. Associate conductor Dawn Kranz will conduct the Children’s Chorus and the women’s ensemble. Jeremiah Garrigues-Cortelyou will conduct the men’s ensemble. Kaye Miziniak and Teddy Izzo will be emcees for the evening. Datura (string trio) will also be featured on the program. This concert will feature many familiar carols, classical numbers and spirituals sung by the choruses and accompanied by a variety of instrumentalists.
