Maynard Dickison
IRON MOUNTAIN — Maynard Dickison has been named the new aquatics director at the Northern Lights YMCA in Iron Mountain.
With more than 14 years of aquatic experience, Dickison brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to the YMCA community. His professional journey began as a competitive swimmer in childhood, later evolving into roles such as aquatics program coordinator at a private school, lifeguard at the Indiana University Natatorium, and head coach/lifeguard/swim instructor/program coordinator at the Irsay YMCA of Indianapolis.
He has experience lifeguarding at prestigious events such as nationals, state championships, Big Ten championships, and Olympic trials. He has coached teams of up to 30 swimmers and managed programs teaching 150 children about water safety.
Dickison has a bachelor of arts from Indiana University and is deeply committed to promoting water safety and inclusivity. “My happy place is in aquatics; I am excited and grateful for the ability to spend the rest of my life on it,” he said.
He aims to build a safe and inclusive aquatics program for all ages and abilities, introducing new programs to ensure everyone can participate.
Outside of work, he is an avid sports enthusiast, following the Chicago Blackhawks and Green Bay Packers, and actively participates in competitive swimming events nationwide. He recently completed his first triathlon and is currently training for an Ironman event.
