Lois Whaley

She was born July 19, 1931, in Kingsford, daughter of the late Martin and Hazel (Parker) Walstrom. Lois graduated from Kingsford High School in 1949 and was a lifelong resident of the area.

She married Richard “Dick” Whaley on Sept. 6, 1974, at the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford, where she has been a longtime member.

Lois was employed as a bookkeeper at D & B Distributing for many years. She also worked as a waitress at the Riverside and the Air Hotel Supper Club as well as working at the Golden Eagle Motel & Campground, as a travel agent for Bon Voyage and doing tax returns for H & R Block.

She was an accomplished baker and made cakes for many occasions from birthdays to extravagant wedding cakes.

Lois also made beautiful flower arrangements from cut and artificial flowers. She enjoyed cooking, puzzles, sewing, collecting coins, and researching family tree genealogy. Most of all, Lois enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Richard; children, Todd (Judy) Doda, Kay (Jim) Hendrickson, Luanne (Jerry) Pukall, Jay Doda (Dawn), Tina Doda (Daune) and Scott (Kathy) Doda; step-children, Keven Whaley (Tina), Kieth Whaley, Anne Rodriquez, Chris (Jeannie) Whaley, Kelley Whaley and Lisa (Jim) Bellmore; a brother, Bob Walstrom; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne and Donald Walstrom; two sisters, Lucille Hoxie and Gladys Doucette; a grandchild, Brenda Lammi; and her first husband, William Doda.

Visitation will be held on Monday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.

The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Rev. Michael March will officiate.

Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park.
