IRON MOUNTAIN — Janice S. Pietrantonio, 79, of Iron Mountain, passed away Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018, peacefully at Dickinson County Healthcare System, Iron Mountain, with family and friends by her side.

She was born Dec. 14, 1938, daughter of the late Dorothy June (Bunn) Matson and Joseph S. Osieczonek. Janice graduated from Kingsford High School, Class of 1957. After high school, she worked at Michigan Bell Telephone Company as an operator for 5 years. Janice married Donald Pietrantonio on Feb. 7, 1959, at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church, Iron Mountain. He preceded her in death on Aug. 11, 2002.

Janice was very active and involved with her family and community. She was a Bluebird, Campfire girl leader and camp counselor for more than 25 years. She was also a camp director for Camp Sanford, Kingsford school camp. Janice was a seamstress for JC Penny and Twin City Cleaner. She also did sewing and alterations for many friends and family. Donald and her cleaned offices at W.B. Thompson for 10 years and sold Avon for more than 30 years. If you were a voter from Ward 1 on the north side you would have seen Janice’s smiling face while you were there, she also worked for the Secretary of Defense doing military entrance testing.

Catering graduations and other special occasions was another of her specialties, she always did it with her close friend, Lyn Bazan. Janice was an avid baker, baking hundreds of assorted cakes with her special frosting, along with biscotti and pizzelle. She enjoyed playing cards, and was in card club for more than 50 years, and was also a member of the Royal Neighbors Club. One of her favorite past times was going to the casino, and she also loved swimming. You could also find Janice babysitting for many families. She was always busy, working or helping anyone in need. Janice had a heart of gold.

Janice is survived by her three loving children, Jodi Reed, Donna Pietrantonio and David Pietrantonio, all of Iron Mountain; two grandsons, Jordan and Tony; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Steven Osieczonek of California; and a sister, Judith Clifton, Manistique.

In addition to her parents and husband, Donald, Janice was preceded in death by in-laws, Dora and Patsy Pietrantonio; son-in-law, Darrell Reed; and by an infant brother, Lee.

Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 1 at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. Closing prayers will be recited at the funeral home at 8:30 a.m. Friday, March 2. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Iron Mountain. Msgr. James Kaczmarek will officiate.
