KINGSFORD — Barbara R. Sandberg, 81, of Kingsford, died Friday, March 9, 2018, at ManorCare Health Services, following a long battle with leukemia.

She was born on Feb. 27, 1937, in Hibbing, Minn., daughter of the late Ernest and Hazel (Connor) Nigra.

Barbara graduated from Hibbing High School in 1955. She received her registered nursing degree from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minn., in 1958.

On Sept. 6, 1958, she married the love of her life, LeRoy Sandberg at Wesley Methodist Church in Hibbing. The couple moved to this area in 1960.

She was a nurse for Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, Dr. Schroeder, Dr. Villa, and Hyland Nursing Home.

Barb was a very special lady and was loved by everyone who knew her. She was a woman of strong faith and knew God was in complete control. She loved her church, Trinity United Methodist, and her church family. Barb was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Most importantly, Barbara loved her family with all her heart.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, LeRoy; her children, Mark (Patty) Sandberg of South Bend, Ind., Kathy (Scott) Beaster of Kingsford, Patty Olson of De Pere, Wis., and Thomas “Beaver” (Jeni) Sandberg of Iron Mountain; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Diane Jobin of California; an aunt, Alta Nylund of Washington; a special sister-in-law, Anna Sandberg Trenberth of Hibbing; and a special cousin, Betty Nigra Mattson of Duluth.

Funeral services will be at noon Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church. Visitation will follow the service in the church hall. Rev. Geri Hamlen will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Trinity United Methodist Church.
