GAASTRA — Dorothy Ann (Tomasoski) Anderson, 92, of Gaastra, passed away March 17, 2018, in Iron River.

She was born Nov. 18, 1925, in Norway, the daughter of the late Joseph and Katherine (Bilski) Tomasoski. She attended the Palatka schools in Michigan, and graduated from Stambaugh High School, Class of 1943.

After graduation, she worked in Detroit during World War II, and then returned to Gaastra. She married Elmer “Swede” Anderson at St. Mary Catholic Church in Gaastra on Aug. 9, 1947. They celebrated 59 wonderful years together before Swede’s passing on March 16, 2007.

She was employed as a secretary for the Upper Peninsula Power Company for 25 years, until her retirement.

She was a lifelong member of St. Mary Catholic Church until its closure, and of St. Cecilia Church in Caspian. She was a lifelong member of St. Ann’s Society. She enjoyed reading, staying connected to friends through her computer, knitting and visiting with friends. She loved to cook and bake and was generous in sharing her recipes with family members and others. She was especially pleased to hear that a relative had tried and succeeded in making pierogis, raspberry pie or her three-layer dessert bars.

Dorothy is survived by her sons, Michael (Jeanne) Anderson of Lakeville, Minn. and Alan (Kim) Anderson, of Grafton, Wis.; daughter, Kathleen (Mark Henschel) Haydon of Iron River; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Anderson of Iron River; brother, David (Johnette) Tomasoski of Manistique; sister, Virginia (Jean) Johnston of Edina, Minn.; grandchildren, Eric (Sandy) Anderson, Nicole (Scott) Creighton, Meredith (Bryan) Davis, Shannon (Gar) Lutes, Michelle Anderson, Matthew (Nicole) Haydon, Raymond (Elvia) Anderson and Joseph (Maddie) Haydon; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Ashlyn, Colleen, Haydon, Emma, Kathryn, Mora, Anika, Maya and Manie; lifelong friend, Betty Bal; as well as cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her son, Mark in 2009; three brothers and their wives, Andrew (Valerie), Lawrence (Diane), and Raymond (Beatrice); and one sister, Esther Tomasoski.

Visitation will be 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 24 at Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River.

Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Caspian, with Father Gregory Veneklase to offer the Mass of Christian Burial.

Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery in the spring.
