Muriel Gallino

NORWAY — Muriel “Toots” Gallino, 97, of Norway, died Friday, March 9, 2018, at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay, Wis.

She was born in Norway on March 29, 1920, daughter of the late Henry and Gertrude (Peterson) Smith. Toots graduated from Norway High School in 1938.

She married Victor Gallino on Nov. 9, 1946, at St. Barbara Church in Vulcan. He preceded her in death on Aug. 12, 2004.

Toots worked for Tavernini Insurance Agency for more than 40 years. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Norway, was in the Victory Bowling League for 64 years, and was inducted into the Tri-County and the International Bowling Hall of Fame.

She enjoyed Norway High School basketball and football games, and was known for her Wednesday Happy Hours. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, doing puzzles and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.

Toots took great enjoyment in watching her grandchildren’s activities, from little league to high school and college. She took great pleasure as two of her grandchildren were head basketball coaches at Norway High School. She was also one of the rare ones, so effortlessly herself, and her family and friends loved her for it.

She is survived by her two daughters, Sandra (Randy) Brockington of Green Bay, and JoAnne (Dan) Sternhagen of Waucedah; son, John (Debbie) Gallino of Vulcan; seven grandchildren, Robert (Tamara) Brockington, Melissa (Kevin) Kampmann, Vicki (David) Delgado, Carli (Kris) Kelly, Scott (Gwen) Sternhagen, Kathryn (Mike) Buchan and Jeff (Ellary) Gallino; great-grandchildren, Havanah, Cade, Makenna, Brynn, Noah, Elena, Averi, Ellie, Lauren, Morgan, Maverick, Tyler, Blake, Aisling, Aiden, A.J. and Ashton; sister-in-law and best friend, Shirley Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Irene Bilski; and brothers, John Smith and Henry, who was killed in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to noon Friday, March 16 at St. Mary Church in Norway.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon Friday at the church, with Fr. Timothy Ekaitis presiding.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Gallino, Scott Sternhagen, Robert Brockington, Kevin Kampmann, Kris Kelly, Mike Buchan and David Delgado.

Interment will follow at the Norway Township Cemetery.
