BREITUNG TOWNSHIP — Rick Stanchina, 59, of Breitung Township, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Thursday, March 22, 2018, at his home. He was born on Jan. 22, 1959, in Norway, son of the late Edward Stanchina and Bernadette (St. Martin) Colantonio.

He attended Kingsford Schools, graduating from Kingsford High School in 1977. He married Linda Carlsen on Feb. 11, 1978, at the Methodist Church. They just celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.

Rick was a self-employed mechanic for most of his life. Racing was his life he enjoyed with his sons, grandsons and friends. He also loved riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle, especially with the Monday Night Riders.

Rick was very excited about becoming a new member of the Local Kiwanis Club. Throughout the years he also enjoyed golfing, bowling and time spent with family and friends at camp. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s sporting events.

Rick is survived by his loving wife, Linda Stanchina of Breitung Township; his children, Scott (Nicole) Stanchina of Kingsford and Brian Stanchina (Nicole Payette) of Quinnesec; his grandchildren, Austin and Carter Stanchina, Jordan Marcouiller, Jayden and Austin Payette; his sisters, Judy (David) Lindblom of Kingsford, Linda (James) Manko of Milwaukee, Chris (Gregg) Chaloupka of Manitowoc, Wis., and Sandra Tavonatti of Green bay; his fur babies, Chassy and Gracie.

He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and many special lifelong and new friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Stanchina and Bernadette (John) Colantonio; a sister, Carol Stockman; sister-in-law, Suzanne Carlsen; and brothers-in-law, Bonny Stockman and Ted Tavonatti.

Visitation will be 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 31 at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.

The funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Kevin Sullivan will officiate. Burial will be in the Quinnesec Cemetery.
