Gilbert J. Klier

CRYSTAL FALLS — Gilbert J. Klier, 96, of Crystal Falls, formerly of Monee, Ill., died Thursday, July 5, 2018, at Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls.

He was born April 13, 1922, in Frankfort, Ill., the son of the late William and Anna (Schroth) Klier. Gilbert was a resident of Frankfort until he was 32 and then moved to Monee, where he lived until he retired and moved to Crystal Falls, where he would reside for the rest of his life.

Gilbert worked on the farm and drove a milk truck for several years. He then drove for BNR Bakery Supply Company for 35 years until retiring in 1982 and moving to Crystal Falls.

Gilbert also served with the Monee Volunteer Police and drove the Monee ambulance for a number of years. He was head usher at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ for 22 years. Gilbert married Bernice Cowen on Sept. 27, 1949. She preceded him in death on May 15, 1991. He then married Eva Reimann on June 27, 1992. She preceded him in death on June 29, 2017.

He is survived by a daughter, Betty (Mark) Anderson of Crystal Falls; four stepchildren, Ernest (Julie) Reimann of Iron River, Lynne (Mike) Thomas of Athens, Ga., Laura (Chris) Stachowicz of Gaastra and Cheryl (Mike) Wescher of Iron River; four grandchildren, Robert Alder of Crystal Falls, Randy (Alisa) Alder of Green Bay, Wis., Mike Dumke of Crystal Falls, and Joleen Eebebee of Kingsport, Tenn.; five step-grandchildren, Daniel, Jennifer, Mariah, Melissa and Wyatt; 11 great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Hunter, Brice, Tyler, Reagan, Kayleigh, Christopher, Grace, Isaiah, Cecila and York.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his two wives; a son, Gilbert J. Klier Jr.; grandson, Ricky Alder; three brothers, Wilbert, Robert and William; and three sisters, Adeline, Caroline and Marjorie.

Visitation will be held at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 5323 W. Margaret St. Monee, IL 60449, on Saturday, July 14, from 9 a.m. until the time of the 11 a.m. funeral service, with David Holston officiating.

Burial will take place at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Frankfort.

A luncheon will follow at 1 p.m. at the church.
