Lindley Johnson

SPREAD EAGLE, Wis. — Lindley Johnson, 87, of Spread Eagle, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018, at the Friends Fellowship Community in Richmond, Ind.

He was born March 26, 1931, in Greensboro, N.C., son of the late Murray and Savilla (Parker) Johnson. Lindley was a 1950 graduate of Westown High School in West Chester, Pa. He then spent four years at Earlham College in Richmond prior to attending the Indiana School of Mortuary Science to become a licensed funeral director.

Lindley married Mary Miller on June 27, 1973, in Ann Arbor. He started his career in funeral service working for Doan Funeral Home in Richmond, where he became a partner and eventually purchased the business, changing the name to Doan & Johnson Funeral Home. He sold the funeral home in 1965, around the same time that he built his first of many church affiliated retirement homes, the Friends Fellowship Community.

Lindley was an intelligent businessman and had the insight to be a pioneer in several areas. That vision lead him to develop Mobile Digital Imaging Services (MDIS) in the early 1980’s, which was one of the first mobile medical imaging companies in the nation. Lindley was a member of the Chippewa Club and Rotary, among several other organizations over the years. He had a true passion for flying and was a skilled pilot and owned many planes from the 1950’s through the 1980’s. He also enjoyed boating, auto shows and classic cars.

Lindley is survived by his wife, Mary; a son, Lindley (Jacalyn) Johnson of Spread Eagle; two daughters, Kimberly (Dennis) Vassar of Commonwealth, Wis., and Kelly Stenson of Atlanta; five grandchildren, Mary, Krissy, Denny, Parker and Rutledge; and one great-grandson, Preston.

He was preceded in death by a son, Mark M. Johnson in 2005.

At Lindley’s request, private family graveside services will be held at Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Friends Fellowship Community, 2030 Chester Blvd., Richmond, IN 47374.

Condolences may be expressed to the family of Lindley Johnson online at www.ernashfuneralhomes.com.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the arrangements.
