NORWAY — Judith A. Opolka, 67, of Norway, died Thursday, Jan. 10, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.

She was born on Sept. 4, 1951, in Norway, the daughter of the late Joseph and Geraldine (Cronick) Zychowski.

Judy graduated from Norway High School in 1969.

She married John Opolka on Nov. 11, 1972.

Judy worked for Norway Gravure, Superior Equipment, Dairy Queen, Walmart and lastly, she started her favorite job as a full-time babysitter for her grandchildren.

She was a member of St. Barbara’s Church, loved planting her flowers and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. She enjoyed her monthly breakfast get-together with her friends and especially spending time with her grandchildren.

Judy is survived by her husband, John; daughter, Julie (Mike) Falk of Norway; grandchildren, Michael, Anna and Joey Falk; sisters, Ada Schwamlien of Vulcan, Rita (Edward) Rozine of Vulcan, Kay (Terry) Backlund of Vulcan and Denice (Richard) Westcott of Vulcan; brother-in-law, Jack Palmcook of Norway; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Diane Palmcook; and brother-in-law, Robert Schwamlien Sr.

Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at St. Mary’s Church in Norway.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at the church, with Fr. Timothy Ekaitis officiating.

Interment will be held in the spring at the Norway Township Cemetery.
