Homer W. Dunkes

FLORENCE, Wis. — Homer W. Dunkes, 87, of Norway, passed away Friday, July 12, 2019, at the Oscar G Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain.

He was born Oct. 6, 1931, in Loch Raven, Md., son of the late Albert M. and Dora E. (Wilson) Dunkes.

Homer grew up in Maryland and proudly served in the United States Army. He was united in marriage to Mary Davis on Nov. 19, 1986. Homer worked in the pattern molding department at Grede Foundry and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Norway.

Homer enjoyed hunting, gardening, and especially the time spent with his family and friends.

Survivors include his loving wife, Mary Dunkes of Florence; two sons, Jason (Lynn) Dunkes of Niagara, Wis., and Ray Davis of Iron Mountain; two daughters, Beverly (Randy) Butterfield of Iron Mountain, and Nina Jacobs of Niagara; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, David Dunkes of Newberry, Fla.; one sister, Adelma Ashe of Townson, Md.; as well as numerous members of the DeClark family and the Davis family.

In addition to his parents, Homer was preceded in death by two sons, David and Homer “Guy.”

Visitation will be 10:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday, July 16 at the Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Home & Crematory, Florence.

A memorial service will follow at noon on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Florence. VFW Post 3635, Florence, will accord military honors at graveside.
