Jerry I. Marquardt

Pembine, Wis. — Jerry I. Marquardt, 85, of Pembine, Wis., passed away in the comfort of his own home surrounded by his family on July 5, 2019.

The sixth of 13 children, Jerry was born Feb. 25, 1934, to Arthur and Minnie (Behnke) Marquardt in Lena, Wis., and grew up on a farm there.

He served his country with the U.S. Army from 1954 – 1956 and after honorable discharge married the former Patricia DeLaet, raised his family and worked hard in the carpentry and ceramic tile business.

Jerry was a 20-year member of the James Delaney American Legion Post 461 of Pembine, and for a time served as vice commander. He was very active and proud of the work the American Legion Post did for their community. He was an avid fisherman catching trophy fish and a hunter bagging trophy deer and moose.

Jerry and Patricia enjoyed travelling and spending time in Alaska and Arizona and spending any time with family. If you needed anything, he was there for you. He was in his element if he was creating or building something; his hands were always busy. He touched many lives and will be lovingly missed by his family and friends.

Jerry is survived by Patricia, his wife of 62 years; and children, Susan (Scott) Wallace, Karie (Brian) Czapanskiy and Allen (Susan) Marquardt. Jerry’s pride and joy were his eight grandchildren, Kristine, Curtis, Justin, Aaron, Holly, Katie and Aidan; and his two great-grandchildren, Zoe and Liam.

Also survived by his siblings, Millie (Rollie) DeRosier, Marvin (Charmaine) Marquardt, Roger (Sharon) Marquardt, Russell (Darlene) Marquardt, Thomas (Helen) Marquardt, Joan (Roger) Cudnohufsky and Alfred Marquardt; and many dear cousins and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Minnie (Behnke) Marquardt; sisters Shirley and Nola; and brothers, Harry, Arvid (Jim) and Marshall.

Visitation will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Pembine on Wednesday, July 10, from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral at 11 a.m., with Pastor Gene Wickman officiating.

Full military honors will be held at church as well. Burial is in the Community Lutheran Cemetery in McAllister.
