Anthony Manduca

NORWAY – Anthony “Tony” Manduca, 98, of Norway, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2019, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.

Anthony was born in Portland, Maine on Oct. 19, 1921, son of the late Francesco and Josephine (Belino) Manduca.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Tony met Marjorie Malm in Chicago during the war and the couple married in Boston Nov. 18, 1946. Marjorie preceded him in death on March 29, 2011.

Tony and Marjorie then came back to Norway. He worked for the US Post Office as a letter carrier from 1949 until his retirement in 1982.

Tony and Marjorie liked adventure and loved to travel the US and Canada. One of their high points was a 10-day rafting trip down the Colorado River together.

He enjoyed the Norway-Vulcan Senior Center and loved to keep active there. He enjoyed reading, solving crossword puzzles, and was a Cubs fan.

Tony was a very active member of First Baptist Church in Norway, where he did everything and even taught Sunday school. Tony was on the Dickinson County Planning Commission for many years and was Mayor of Norway from 1969-1973.

He is survived by his son, Michael (Joan) Manduca of Sturgeon Bay, Wis.; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Tony was preceded in death by his 11 brothers and sisters.

Family will greet friends from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 13 at the Ortman Funeral Home in Norway.

A Memorial service will follow at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Warren Geldmeier of First Baptist Church officiating.

Interment will be held in the spring at Norway Township Cemetery.
