Eleanor "Ellie" Angeli Spigarelli

IRON RIVER — Eleanor “Ellie” Angeli Spigarelli, age 88, of Iron River, passed away at home on Dec. 6, 2019.

She was born on Jan. 11, 1931, in Muskegon, daughter of the late Everett and Blanche (Madecey) Grandelius. Ellie attended the Muskegon schools, graduating with the class of 1949. She then attended Edward Sparrow Nursing School in Lansing.

Ellie married Thomas Angeli on June 19, 1952, in Angola, Ind. Tom preceded her in death on March 22, 1982.

On June 1, 1985, Ellie married Duvilio Spigarelli at St. Cecelia Church in Caspian. Duvilio preceded her in death on Dec. 19, 2002. She was also preceded in death by her son, Thomas “Tony” Angeli; and her brother and sister-in-law, Everett “Sonny” and Martha Grandelius.

Tom and Ellie owned and operated Selin’s Furniture and True Value Hardware store in Iron River for a number of years in the ’70s, and Ellie later purchased and operated Spigarelli lanes in Crystal Falls with her husband, Duvilio

In addition to being an excellent bowler, Ellie was an avid golfer, participating in many tournaments. She was a member of the Iron River Country Club and George Young Golf & Recreation Center.

Ellie is survived by her children, Everett (Rhonda) Angeli of Iron River, Mary (David) Arcand of Crystal Falls, and David (Penny) Angeli of Albers, Ill.; stepchildren, Anthony (Kathy) Spigarelli of Edgerton, Wis., Dr. Michael Spigarelli of Cincinnati, Mary (Kenneth) Rose of Longwood, Fla., Nina H. Buske of Stoughton, Wis., and Patricia Spigarelli of Burbank, Calif.; sister, Janice (Tom) Hylland, of Muskegon; seven grandchildren, Kristie (Brian Berg) Angeli, Jayni Angeli, Taylor Angeli, Zach Angeli, Alexandra Angeli, Christi (Sean) Raphael, Craig Arcand; three great-grandchildren, Jericho, Jeremiah and Tyler Raphael; and extended family and friends.

She will be remembered by her family and friends for her giving heart, lively singing and dancing, and Hungarian cooking.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron River.

Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, with Rev. Gregory Veneklase to offer the Mass of Christian Burial.

Interment will be in the Iron River City Cemetery in the spring.
