Tony M. Fittante

CASPIAN — On Dec. 23, 2019, Tony M. Fittante of Escanaba was called home.

Tony was born Jan. 4, 1927, in Caspian, the youngest of five children born to Joseph and Rose Fittante. 

He graduated from Stambaugh High School in 1945, and the following day was drafted into the U.S. Army going to Fort Benning, Texas, after which he served in Nuremberg, Germany, as a part of the Occupation Troops with the 793rd Battalion in the Military Police. He received an honorable discharge in November 1946. 

After his time in the service, Tony attended Northern Michigan University and earned a degree in accounting and economics.

His initial employment was with Universal C.I.T. in Marquette. He was later transferred to Fond du Lac, Wis., and remained there until he took a position with Northern Michigan Bank in Escanaba as vice president, where he remained until his retirement in 1992.

Tony married the former Patt Nichol in 1953 at St. Patrick Church. They have three children, Maripatt Lindahl (Steve) of Gladstone, JoEllyn Kostesich (Joseph) of Shelby Township, and Marty Fittante (Lisa) of Kingsford; and five grandchildren, Eric, Katie and Leah Lindahl, Helen Kostesich and Christine Greiner (Matthew).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Rose; sisters, Camille Perlongo, Mary Pisoni and Violet Nelson; and brother, Louis Fittante.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Eastern time Saturday, Dec. 28 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba.

Military honors will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel by the Delta County Veterans Council.

Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church in Escanaba, with Father Fran DeGroot officiating.

A luncheon will be held after the services at The House of Ludington.

Burial will take place in Lakeview Cemetery.
