Evelyn M. Kassin-Bouchard

She was born May 5, 1928, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Ettore and Delmira (Carpenetti) Bongi. Lena was a lifetime resident of the area.

She was united in marriage to Carl J. Kassin on Feb. 23, 1950, and they were together for 47 years.

Lena later married William Bouchard on Dec. 22, 2000. She worked many different positions until she retired at the age of 62 from the State of Michigan.

Lena enjoyed simple pleasures in life and her rosary was never far from her side. She and her husband would go for long rides, happy to see all of the wildlife along the way.

Lena was an avid bird watcher, always hoping to catch a glimpse of her favorite, a cardinal. She was excited each spring to watch her flowers and shrubs bloom.

Lena leaves behind her husband, Bill Bouchard; her children, Daniel (Debra) Lomax, Delmira (Douglas) Axberg, Carl (Tina) Kassin, Mary Ann (Ron) Perron and Viola (Ron) Axberg; grandchildren, Tammy (William) Chilman, Daniel (Jodi) Lomax, Kelly (Jason) Poupore, Scott (Erin) Evosevich, Paul (Amy) Axberg, Kristin (Lance) Bashaw, Michelle (Sam) Sharp, Joseph Kassin, Russell (Joy) Kassin, Chelsae Bailey, Dylan Bailey, Del (Missy) Powell, Kayla Perron, Aimee (Chris) Walker, Amanda Perron, Daniel (Lisa) Axberg and Angelena Axberg; many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; two sisters, Isabel Dierkens and Mary Chartier Irish; as well as special friends, Ann Matthews and Barb Bitter.

In addition to her parents and first husband, Carl, Lena was preceded in death by two sisters, Josephine Lubivich and Genevieve Wall; three brothers, Orlando, Louis and David Bongi; two nieces, Marilee Plowers and Nettie Dierkens; and by one nephew, Eddie Dierkens.

In accordance with Lena’s wishes, private family services will be held.
