NORWAY — Justin “Justy” N. Renier, 99, of Norway passed away on Friday, March 27, 2020, at ManorCare Nursing Home in Kingsford.

He was born in Two River, Wis., on March 23, 1921, son of the late Justin and Leona (Jacquart) Renier.

Justin grew up on various dairy farms in Wisconsin. In 1936, he moved with his family from Jefferson County, Wis. to Faithorn.

Justin married Doris Stein on March 5, 1956, in St. Stephen’s Church in Loretto. She preceded him in death on March 28, 2005.

He joined the U.S. Coast Guard in 1942, and served aboard the USS Poughkeepsie during World War II.

After his military service, Justin worked at Lloyd Manufacturing in Menominee. He then began his lifelong career as a painter/decorator. He started his own business, Renier Painting and Decorating, painting many homes and businesses in the Norway area.  He continued working until the age of 88.

Justin is survived by his brother, Clifford Renier of Faithorn; many nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Geraldine Gardiner.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; his parents; four sisters, Julia (Clarence) Miller, Lucille (Vic) Polzin, Viola (Jesse) McClure, and Leona Renier; three brothers, Joseph (Esther), Gilbert (Jane), and Orville (Millie) Renier; and sister-in-law, Gloria Renier.

Justin will be remembered for his amazing memory and keen sense of humor. He shared many stories of his painting days with Ron Jarley.

He loved hunting and spending time at the Renier camp, sharing stories with the family.

Justin also played baseball with his brothers and Faithorn friends.

He was in good health until being admitted to the VA in Iron Mountain last September and then went to ManorCare in January.

Private interment will be held in the Norway Township Cemetery.

A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held at a later date.

The Renier family extends a special thank you to the staff at the VA CLC and ManorCare for their kindness and assistance, and to all who visited and prayed for him.
