Shirley L. Peterson

Shirley was born on Feb. 4, 1929, in Iron River, daughter of the late Harry and Elsie (Wiedemier) Thornberg. She has been a lifelong resident of this area and was a 1947 graduate of Stambaugh High School.

Shirley worked in Iron County for many years as the office manager for a local eye doctor. She married Charles Peterson in 1979 and the couple enjoyed 24 years together until Charles’ death in 2003.

Over the years, Shirley was involved with her church in Iron River and most recently, the Breen Senior Citizens Center in Kingsford. She also loved to read.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Kristine (Jonny) Flewelling of Las Vegas and son, Harry (Linda) Wercinski of Caspian; grandchildren, Tina (Glen) Waring, Glen (Angelica) Flewelling, Eric Wercinski and Kelly Wercinski; great-grandchildren, Zachary and Zoe Waring, Mykala, Jada, Leyla, Mageline and Peyton Wercinski, Thania Sotelo and Sherry (Brian) Hutzler; great-great-grandchildren, Violett, Lulu and Nellie; a sister, Harriet Hornberger of Oconomowoc, Wis. and a niece, Nancy Hornberger of Oconomowoc.

Graveside services will take place at a later date at Resthaven Cemetery in Iron River.
