Karen Niemi

IRON MOUNTAIN — Karen R. Niemi, 73, of Iron Mountain, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 2, 2020.

Karen was born on April 27, 1947, in Ironwood, daughter of the late Robert and Lena (Redolfi) Peterson. Karen grew up in Hurley, Wis. and was a 1965 graduate of Hurley High School.

She married Dan Niemi on Aug. 27, 1967 and shortly thereafter moved to this area.

Karen took great pride in being a stay-at-home mother and homemaker.

She volunteered in the activities area at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center and loved assisting the veterans with bingo.

Karen loved to play bingo and traveled to the various bingo games locally each week.

She also enjoyed crafting, sewing, taking care of her flowers and plants and in her younger years bowling in the league.

Karen especially loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Dan; daughters, Missy (Dan) Turini of Norway and Penny (Rick) Lewis of Iron Mountain; sisters, Gloria (Roy) Johnson of Waupun, Wis., Shirley (Roger) Selves of Pence, Wis. and Roberta (Jon) Bergquist of Gile, Wis.; three grandchildren, Bret Turini, Alexandra Lewis and Isabella Lewis and several nieces and nephews.

Private family graveside services are being held.

Burial will be in the Quinnesec Cemetery.
