David F. Riedel

IRON MOUNTAIN — David F. Riedel, 79, of Iron Mountain, was unexpectedly called home to heaven on Friday, July 10, 2020.

Dave was born April 29, 1941, in Marshfield, Wis. He attended elementary and high school in Marshfield and graduated from Columbus High School in 1959. David served in the U.S. Army and the Wisconsin National Guard from 1960-1967. Dave worked at Bob’s Mobile Homes in Iron Mountain for a number of years.

He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and when time allowed fishing the various lakes and rivers of the Iron Mountain area. He was a very active member of the Iron Mountain/Kingsford Jaycees and Lions Clubs for nearly 40 years and served as the local club secretary for 30 years. Dave loved playing and watching sports including his Wisconsin sports teams, especially the Packers and followed them avidly.

On Nov. 20, 1965, he was united in marriage to Barbara Wegmann and they enjoyed 54 loving years together.

David is survived by his wife, Barbara; children, Mark (Paula) Riedel and Melissa (Ben) Riedel-Salazar, both of Houston, Scott Riedel of Wiesbaden, Germany and Samantha (David Jacques) Riedel of Iron Mountain; grandchildren, Anthony Free, Matthew and David Riedel, Alexandria Gentles, Zachary and Emma Axberg, great-grand-daughter; Charlie Riedel; and brother-in-law, Michael Wegmann.

A wonderful father and husband, he was loved by all and will be missed. Dave and Barb have been blessed beyond measure with wonderful friends and family, near and far, who have added so much joy to their lives!

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lavern and Lillian Riedel; his brother, Donald (Sally) Riedel; and brother-in-law, Michael Wegmann.

Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. noon until 2 p.m. Thursday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Fr. Janusz Romanek will officiate. Burial will be in the Dickinson County Memorial Garden.

Pallbearers will be Mark Riedel, Benjamin Salazar, Scott Riedel, Anthony Free, David Riedel, and Zachary Axberg.

The family would like to thank Dr. Johnson and the nurses at Dickinson County Hospital System, the Iron Mountain Veterans Administration hospital staff, Dickinson County Home Health and Arms of Angels.

A special thank you to Merry Hall, a close family friend and our wonderful neighbors who have provided so much support over the last several years.
