KINGSFORD — Robert J. Chartier, 94, and Beverly J. Chartier, 91, of Kingsford, passed away peacefully just hours apart on Monday, July 6, 2020, at ManorCare Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Kingsford. with their loving family by their side.

Bob was born on Oct. 20, 1925, in Norway, son of Orville and Josephine (Canavera) Chartier. Beverly was born on June 2, 1929, in Channing, daughter of Albert and Ruby (King) Conery.

Bob served in the United States Navy, enlisting while in high school. He spent three years overseas during World War II, returning to graduate from Kingsford High School.  Bev was an Iron Mountain graduate. 

Bob and Bev were married at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain on June 21, 1952, and just celebrated 68 years of marriage together. They were lifelong residents of the area

Bob was employed at the Niagara Paper Mill as head coating maker for 38 years, retiring in 1987. 

Bev was employed at Isabel’s, Inc. as the store manager in downtown Iron Mountain. 

Upon his retirement, Bob assisted Bev at the store becoming a “jack of all trades.”

Bob enjoyed hunting, golfing, gardening and his casino runs. He was also an avid Notre Dame and Detroit Tigers Fan.

Beverly was a former member of the Daughters of Isabella, loved puzzles and reading. 

Both enjoyed having a cup of coffee with their friends at McDonald’s. 

Bob and Beverly were members of St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Kingsford. 

Most of all, they loved their children and grandchildren. 

Bob and Beverly are survived by their two daughters, Julie (Randy) Johns of Iron Mountain and Lisa (James “JJ”) Richtig of Kingsford; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Jacob) Pericolosi, Jessica (Jordan) Clarke, and Andra Jo (Timothy) Nasi; three great-grandchildren, Wyatt Clarke and Brody and Brock Pericolosi; Beverly’s brother, James (Peg) Conery of Port Washington, Wash.; two sisters-in-law, Dolores Conery and Kay Conery.

They were preceded in death by Bob’s brother, John “Jack” (Marlene) Chartier; Beverly’s three brothers, Albert (Thelma) Conery, Morris Conery and Michael Conery; and her sister, Rita (Donald) Hicks.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in their memories.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 17, at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. 

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Kingsford. 

Burial will be in Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
