KINGSFORD — Lois Mae Hultquist, 93, of Kingsford, passed away on Aug. 17, 2020, at ManorCare Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Kingsford, with her family by her side.  

Lois was born May 28, 1927, in Escanaba, the first child of Earl and Lillian (Swanson) Johnson. She graduated from Escanaba High School in 1945. 

On Sept. 13, 1947, Lois married the love of her life, Don Hultquist and they were married for 32 years until his death in 1979. 

She was an active member of First Covenant Church in Iron Mountain for many years.

During her working career, Lois worked at Sears Roebuck, later at the Michigan Department of Social Services and then her favorite job, working the counter at her daughter Barb’s Swedish Passport in Norway. 

She loved her house at 116 Harrison in Kingsford and lived there for 60 years. 

She was a terrific cook, and loved to make big dinners for family. Her specialty was desserts, with pies and pineapple torte. 

Lois was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and friend to many people. 

Lois had a very positive personality and outlook on life and will be sadly missed.

Lois is survived by four children, Jon (Christine), Joan Desalvo, Judy Froemming and Barbara (Robert) Thorne; her sister, Carol (Jerry) Ebbesen, and brothers, Don (Ruth) Johnson and David (Roberta) Johnson; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Lois was preceded in death by her sister, Joan Buckland and brother, Lorn Johnson.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 21 at the Quinnesec Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Lois may be made to the Almost Home Animal Shelter.
