Cherie Marcotte

Cherie Marcotte

ELY TOWNSHIP — Cherie Jane Marcotte joined her beloved husband in eternity at 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 16, 2020. In true Cherie fashion she waited till after lunch, because she didn’t do anything important before noon.

She was surrounded by the people she considered to be her most precious treasures under the care of Lake Superior Home Health and Hospice.

Born in Chicago, on Feb. 5, 1949. She was the daughter of Mary Lou and Harold Zimmerman and Raymond and Eleanor Parrett. She was raised in Norway, graduating from Norway High School with the class of 1967.

She married her night in shining armor John “Johnny” Marcotte on Sept. 24, 1968. Together they raised their family on Cooper Lake Road in Ishpeming. The doors on their home welcomed everyone. Friends and strangers alike gathered around the family table for fresh hot coffee, apple bars and fellowship.

She felt as a parent she might not have always gotten it right and that grandchildren are a second chance. They were the joy of her life and her face would light up with every visit. Visits included either baking, sewing, watching movies or telling stories that were larger than life itself. Football, talk of football and retelling football stories consumed a great deal of her time. In the most recent years she discovered that as wonderful as grandchildren are great-grandchildren provided an even greater opportunity to practice shenanigans.

Over this past summer she spent as much time as she could with riding and enjoying her customized Nana Mobile Lady Bug golf cart, fashioned by her resident mechanic Frank.

Survivors include, Allison (Robert) Filizetti, Noelle (Kevin) Champion, Nicholle (Frank) Zeits all of Ishpeming, Wendy (Arthur) Quinn of Rochester, N.Y. and special niece, Jennifer Zimmerman of St. Claire Shores, Mich.; 10 grandchildren: Anthony, Tristen, Tabin (Emily Quayle) Filizetti, Emily (Stephen) Herman, Katie (Dan) Nelson, Cody (Jodi) Prisk, Adam (Katy) Prisk, Camille, Samantha and Seeley Quinn; three great-grandchildren: Aili, Maci and Laney Nelson; Mark (Karen) Zimmerman, Kim Zimmerman, Scott (Barbara) Zimmerman, James (Pat) Parrett, Timothy Parrett; sisters: Sue (Jack) Heider, Louanne Nelson, Debbie (Brian) Laurin; Louis (Gladys) Marcotte, Charles (Patricia) Marcotte, Allen (Bonnie) Marcotte, Robert (Kathy) Marcotte, Bernard (Deanette) Marcotte, Donald (Shirley) Marcotte. Ruth LeRoy, Audrey Marcotte, Marion (Marshall) Randall, Mae Williams, Barbara Hilliker, Margaret (Dave) Johnson.

Cherie was preceded in death by her husband, John Marcotte; special great-granddaughter Eloise Ann Herman; parents Harold and Mary Lou Zimmerman and Raymond and Eleanor Parrett; in-laws, Harry and Agnes Marcotte; Harold Zimmerman, Jeanne Turek, Richard Parrett, and Sandy Leyo, Jane and Frank Santora, Morris and Armine Libby, Jack Williams, Allen LeRoy, Marlene and Roger Marcotte, Robert Hilliker.

Per her wishes and due to current COVID restrictions private services will be held.

We know that she will be looking down on us and minding her own business … her story will continue.
