IRON MOUNTAIN — Henry R. “Hank” Peronto Jr., 90, of Iron Mountain, passed away peacefully Saturday, Nov. 21, 2020, at Freeman Nursing and Rehabilitation Community.

Hank was born April 20, 1930, in Iron Mountain, the son of the late Henry Sr. and Lottie (Cootware) Peronto. He attended Iron Mountain High School, graduating in 1949. After graduation, he served in the United States Marine Corps for a brief time.

Hank’s working career began locally with the Perfix Company. He then worked as an over the road truck driver for Clairmont Transfer for 30 years with the name “Hammerin’ Hank.” He retired in 1984 with recognition of joining the 3 Million Miles Club for safe driving with the company.

He lived an active life and loved playing pool and belonged to many leagues in the area. He also loved spending his days at the casino. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. He also enjoyed playing slow pitch softball, golf, bocce ball, walking, jogging, listening to country music and was always whistling.

He is survived by his children, Bob (Linda) Peronto of High Point, N.C., Tom (Dar) Peronto of San Diego, Calif., Bill (Sumol) Peronto of Schererville, Ind., Sue Peronto and her long time companion, Jennifer Pace of Iron Mountain and Jeanne (Al) Sexton of Kingsford; a special nephew, Steve (Cathy) Schoen of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six sisters, Margaret LaRue, Marion Guy, Ethel Blackmore, Elaine Cunningham, Joyce Brew and Carol Corriveau and a brother, Lowell.

Due to Covid-19, there will be no funeral service at this time. A celebration of Hank’s life will be held at a later date.
