Stephen Schoen

LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. — Stephen Richard Schoen, 75, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz. formerly of Kingsford, passed away on Jan. 20, 2021, from complications of COVID-19.

Steve was born in Escanaba,to Joyce Peronto and William Schoen on April 4, 1945. He was lovingly raised by his grandparents, Henry and Lottie Peronto who strongly influenced the kind, caring, and compassionate man he became! Steve graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1963, attended technical school for one year in Milwaukee, and served in the Michigan National Guard.

He returned to Iron Mountain and married the love of his life Cathy Warmuth in November of 1973. Steve worked at Lake Shore Inc. in Kingsford, for 24 years until they closed. He briefly worked at Flood Supply Company and then went to work for International Paper retiring after 14 1/2 years. Never one to stay idle he worked part-time doing maintenance at the Comfort Inn in Iron Mountain.

No matter where Steve worked, he made friends. Steve enjoyed old cars, motorcycles, photography, woodworking, and his pets but family was what was the MOST important to him.

Steve never met a stranger, they were just people waiting to become his friends. His family and friends enjoyed his gift of humor, infectious laugh, and kind heart. Steve was always ready to lend a helping hand when anyone needed it. There was no task that Steve couldn’t tackle and much of what he learned was self taught.

Steve and Cathy enjoyed doing many projects together. Cathy said “Steve had the skill and I took direction from him. He wasn’t just my husband, but my best friend and soulmate, there was nothing that he wouldn’t do for me.”
