CRYSTAL FALLS — Thomas Lee Lato, 62 of Crystal Falls, went to be with his Lord on Friday, Jan. 15, 2021, after a brain bleed and multiple strokes.

Tom was born on Sept.17, 1958, in Chicago, Ill., to Paul and Erma Lato. He graduated from Loyal High School in Loyal, Wis., in May of 1976. After the Lato family moved to the U.P. of Michigan, Tom received a bachelor’s degree in business from Northern Michigan University in Marquette.

After many years employed in management positions for Shopko Corporation in multiple states, Tom returned to the U.P.; he married Theresa (Bortolini) Anderson and raised three children in Crystal Falls.

He was part owner of Lato Lumber for 22 years with his brother Dan and had just recently retired from his position as president of operations of the company.

Tom was an active member of the community; he was a member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church and the Lions Club, and he participated in a variety of sports, including softball, golf and bowling. 

He also loved the outdoors and making memories with his loved ones.

He will be greatly missed by his three children, Timothy Lato of Crystal Falls, Michelle (Tony) Trepasso of Alpha, and Nicholas Lato of Crystal Falls; three grandchildren, Hailey, Logan, and Harper Trepasso; three brothers, Jim (Jane) Lato of Winter Haven, Fla., Dan (Pat) Lato of Crystal Falls, and Gary (Sharon) Lato of Crystal Falls; two sisters, Julia (Bruce) Natchke of Burleson, Texas, and Linda (Allen) Kiekhefer of La Grange, Ky.; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Paul and Erma Lato; brother, David Lato; sister, Jane Ringquist; brother-in-law, Greg Ringquist; and step-daughter, Stephanie Anderson.

Due to COVID restrictions, services will be held sometime in the spring or summer at the Nash Funeral Home in Crystal Falls.
