Jon J. ‘Jack’ Nord

QUINNESEC — Jon J. “Jack” Nord, 79, of Quinnesec passed away Sunday, March 21, 2021, at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain with his loving wife by his side.

Jack was born Oct. 11, 1941, in Norway, son of the late Walter and June (Maheu) Nord. He graduated from Norway High School in 1959 and married his high school sweetheart, Alice Trevillian, on Dec. 26 of that same year at St. Barbara Catholic Church in Vulcan.

He served in the U.S. Navy for three years. After moving back to the area he worked at Lodal, the Niagara Paper Mill and was a serviceman for Iron Mountain Gas Co. for nearly 30 years, retiring in 1998.

A lifelong resident of the area, Jack was a member of the American Legion Post 50, the Breitung Township Volunteer Fire Department for many years, and attended Trinity United Methodist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed spending most of his time at camp, which he built and took great pride in. In his younger days he enjoyed snowmobiling with family and friends.

A “Jack of all trades,” he could fix just about anything. He loved working on cars and raced at the Norway Speedway for several years. He was a huge supporter of his grandchildren in all of their sporting events and traveled near and far to countless baseball, football and basketball games. In August of 2019 he and his son, Craig, had the pleasure of traveling to Washington D.C. as a member of the U.P. Honor Flight.

Jack is survived by his wife of 61 years, Alice; three children, Craig (Marsha) Nord, Janis Nord and Renee (Paul) Grenier, all of Quinnesec; two brothers, Ross (Melanie) Nord of Norway and Michael (Pat) Phillips of North Carolina; brothers-in-law, Ward (Joyce) Trevillian and Larry (Carol) Trevillian; sisters, Joyce (Dean) Phillips, JoAnn (John) Janczak, and Barbara (Lynn) Kinzinger; grandchildren, Laura (Brody), Logan (Sammy), Eric, Stacy (Christopher), Brian, Cole (Katelynn) and Brock (Alena); 10 great-grandchildren and one on the way; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Richard and Laurette Trevillian; a grandson, Justin Nord; and a brother-in-law, Dale Trevillian.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, March 26, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at the church with Rev. Geri Hamlen officiating.

Burial will be in Cemetery Park with military honors conducted by the Uren-Johnson-Cooper American Legion Post 50.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in Jack’s memory.

The family would like to thank the Hospice staff at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center for their exceptional care and concern for our husband, father and grandfather during such a difficult time.
