Edward “Butch” Payette

AURORA, Wis. — Edward “Butch” Payette, 86, of Aurora peacefully passed away Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at his home.

Butch was born on April 5, 1935, in Niagara, Wis., the late son of Clarence and Rosella (Neveau) Payette.

Butch was a lifelong resident of the Aurora/Florence area, but graduated from Kingsford High School. He joined the U.S. Army right out of school, where he served as a sharpshooter.

After he got out of the service, Butch and his brother, Donald bought the C & R Bar from their parents in 1960, and he’s been running it ever since.

He married the love of his life, Marian Isaacson, on Sept. 15, 1961.

Butch enjoyed fishing, golfing, hunting at his farm, and spending time with his friends and family at the bar.

He is survived by one son, Tim Payette of Aurora; one daughter, Lora Aberle of Denmark, Wis.; four grandchildren, Bryan, Sara, and Kaitlyn Aberle and Carrisa Payette; and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marian Payette; two brothers, Donald and Douglas Payette; and one sister, Doreen Mohr.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 24, 2021, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.

Military honors will be at 4 p.m. at the funeral home.

A celebration of life will be held at the C & R Bar shortly afterward.
