BREITUNG TOWNSHIP — John Thomas Fredrickson, 74, of Breitung Township passed away Thursday, June 24, 2021, at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain with his loving wife by his side.

John was born Nov. 24, 1946, in Iron Mountain, the son of Roy and Mae (Krans) Fredrickson. He graduated from Kingsford High School in 1964 and served in the U.S. Army (1966-1967) in Vietnam.

He married Sharon Wickman on Feb. 15, 1969, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain. A lifelong resident of the area, John first worked in construction before working as a welder at Lakeshore, Inc., Wickman Welding, and J.D. Welding. He later worked as a foreman at Customer Metal.

A one-time pool hustler in Milwaukee, John was a kind and fun-loving man who enjoyed golfing, playing pool, singing karaoke, being at camp, watching his G.B. Packers, and meeting his buddies every Wednesday at the C & R Bar. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family. He was a member of Oak Crest Golf Course, the American Legion, and Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sharon; his son, David Fredrickson (fiancee Kelly Gendron) of Spread Eagle, Wis.; two daughters, Deanna (Al) Michaud and Jodie (Clint) Peterson, both of Kingsford; his brother, Gary Fredrickson of Peavy Falls; a step-sister, Siri (Bill) Henson and step-brothers, Kim Anderson and Kevin Anderson; sisters-in-law, Marlene (Rich) Azarovitz and Pat Wickman; brother-in-law, David Wickman; grandchildren, Amanda and Ashley Fredrickson, Makayla Michaud (fiancee Kevin Reynolds), Marcus Michaud, Brianna and Cassidy Peterson, Jake Gendron (fiance Cayla) and Josh Gendron; several nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by his in-laws, Wally and Adeline Wickman; a brother, James Fredrickson; sister-in-law, Jan Wickman; brother-in-law, Ken Wickman; his stepmother, Jeanette Anderson-Fredrickson; a niece, Andrea Fredrickson; and nephews, Dale Fredrickson, Mike Wickman, and Gary Wickman.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Monday, June 28 at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will follow at 12 noon at the funeral home. Pastor Paul Strom will officiate, and military graveside honors will be conducted by the Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post 50 at the Quinnesec Cemetery immediately following the service.
