Josephine Jean Singler

IRON RIVER — Josephine Jean Singler, 100, of Iron River, passed away on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls.

Josephine was born on July 21, 1920 in Caspian, the daughter of the late Joseph and Angela (Nori) Vaccari and remained a lifelong resident of the area. She attended and graduated from the Stambaugh Schools, with the Class of 1938. After high school, she went to the McDonough School of Business.

She was employed by the Iron County Probate Court for several years.

On June 25, 1949, she married Jack Singler at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Caspian. They had three children, Jack (Jean) Singler of Duluth, Minn., Mary Johnson (Bob Thurow) of Scottville, Mich., and Charles (Jeannette) Singler of Ashland, Wis.; five grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and many wonderful great-grandchildren. They celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary in 2008, before Jack preceded her in death on June 8, 2009.

Josie enjoyed life! She was a fierce competitor in golf and played often at the Iron River Country Club as well as at George Young, where she got a hole-in-one. She loved playing cards too, whether it was smear, bridge, cribbage or a game with the grandchildren. Later in life, she and Jack would play a game of cribbage each night after dinner.

She was a member of the St. Agnes Catholic Church, past president of the Altar Society, Iron County Hospital Auxiliary, Rosary Sodality, Italian Ladies Society, and a 4-H Leader.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her twin, Jean Ross; brothers, Joseph, Angelo and Leo Vaccari; sisters, Mary LaBelle Kopenski and Rita Donelson.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 24, from 9 to 10:45 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron River.

Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Iron River with Rev. Gregory Veneklase to offer the Mass of Christian Burial.

Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery in Iron River.
