NIAGARA, Wis. — Barbara Ann Kowalski, 84, of Niagara, Wis., passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at Dickinson County Healthcare System in Iron Mountain.

She was born Feb. 5, 1937, in Niagara, daughter of the late Fred and Buella (Whaley) Petersen. Barb was a lifelong resident of Niagara and graduated from Niagara High School, class of 1955.

She married Robert Kowalski on July 3, 1955, in Niagara. Barbara worked at Maryhill Manor in her earlier years as a nurse’s aide and was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Niagara.

She enjoyed baking, making cookies at Christmas time, and distributing her baked goods to many friends in the area. Barb loved collecting cookbooks and trying new recipes, which she would then share with her many friends. She loved planting a garden, canning and was an avid reader, having read thousands of books. Barb would also collect pop can tops and donate them to area fundraisers. She will be missed by her family and many friends. They will always remember her visiting and her gift to socialize.

Survivors include her loving husband of 65 years, Robert Kowalski; three sons, Michael (Audrey) Kowalski of Florida, Steven (Felicia) Kowalski of Ohio and John (Angela) Kowalski of Quinnesec; two daughters, Buffy (Patrick) Kelly of Niagara, and Kris (Steve) McGrath of Sherwood, Wis.; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Barb was preceded by one brother, Alan Gerald Petersen.

Visitation will be Saturday, Aug.7, from 10:30 until 11 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home-Niagara Chapel in Niagara, Wis. Prayers will be recited at 11 a.m. Deacon Jerry Nardy will officiate. A celebration of Barbara’s life will take place Saturday, Aug. 7, from 3 until 6 p.m. at the Pit Stop in Niagara.
