CRYSTAL FALLS — Conrad G. Nelson, 85, of Crystal Falls, passed away Sunday, Sept. 12, 2021, at Aspirus Iron River Hospital in Iron River.

He was born Nov. 20, 1935, in Chicago, son of the late Paul and Lillian (Starcheski) Nelson. Conrad grew up and attended school in Illinois. He received a scholarship for junior college for both football and baseball.

Following graduation from college, he proudly served in the Air National Guard. Conrad worked as quality control for U.S. Steel. He moved to Iron County in 1974 and was a High Priest of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Iron Mountain.

Conrad was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed watching their sporting events both home and away.

Survivors include three sons, David (Roberta) Nelson of Combined Locks, Wis., Jason Nelson of Kenton, Mich. and Curt Chesnutt; three daughters, Krystene Royal of Iron River, Ann Marie (Jason) Hood of Albuquerque, N.M., and Amy Hammons of Stephenville, Texas; and 10 grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Conrad was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Roger Nelson.

In accordance with Conrad’s wishes, private family services will be held.
