BREITUNG TOWNSHIP — Irene Cavalieri, 97, of Breitung Township, passed away on Monday, Sept. 13, 2021 at Maryhill Manor in Niagara, Wis.

Irene was born in Ashland, Wis. on Nov. 30, 1923, daughter of the late Edwin and Clarice (Corrigan) Olsen. The family moved to Kingsford when she was an infant and she lived there for most of her life. Irene graduated from Kingsford High School in 1942. She worked for Michigan Bell and JCPenney following her graduation.

Irene was married to Anthony “Dave” Cavalieri in 1951, and they lived in Lansing until Dave graduated from college. The couple then moved to Kingsford where they raised a family of four children. Irene was a stay-at-home mom for several years, then worked in the Breitung Township Schools hot lunch program for 16 years.

Upon retirement, she and Dave moved to Merriman where she enjoyed the country life, camping and cross country skiing. She also loved attending the grandchildren’s various academic and athletic activities.

She is lovingly survived by her children, Stephen (Debbie) Cavalieri, Jean (Lenny) Burns, Robert (Gail) Cavalieri, and Richard Cavalieri; grandchildren, Vincent (Nikki) Cavalieri, Christopher (Sarah) Cavalieri, Aimee Tatangelo, Tony (Elise) Cavalieri, Cole (Hannah) Cavalieri, Lucas Cavalieri, Shannon (Mel) Burns, Ryan (Bobby) Burns, Dylan Burns, Amanda Cavalieri, Alyssa (Lee) Erickson, Ian (Amy) Cavalieri; great-grandchildren, Aiden, Lily, Gavin, Dominic and Sierra; two sisters, Lenore Kosovec of Kingsford and Joanne Hebert of Norway, as well as many nieces, nephews and other family members.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Dave, and sister, Joyce Bolander.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 24 at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Funeral Services will follow at 1 p.m., at the funeral home. Fr. Eric Olson will officiate. Burial will follow at Iron Mountain Cemetery Park.
