Ray K. Burgess

He was born April 7, 1933, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Hubert and Carrie (Johnson) Burgess. Ray grew up in Iron Mountain and was a graduate of Iron Mountain High School, class of 1951. He went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Michigan Tech. Ray married Betty Simondsen on Oct. 27, 1951.

Ray was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kingsford and was very active in the Blue Ox Trail Riders. He was also very involved with the SECOLA Lake Association in Spread Eagle for many years and was a member of the Pine Grove Country Club.

Ray enjoyed snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, scuba diving, water skiing, being on the lake, riding ATVs, deer hunting, and especially the time spent with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his loving wife of almost 70 years, Betty Burgess; five sons, James (Laure) Burgess, Karl (Carol) Burgess, Denis (Linda Kocourek) Burgess, Dale (Julie) Burgess, and Paul (Jaycee) Burgess; one daughter, Vickie (Richard) Mytinger; 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by one brother, James Burgess.

In accordance with Ray’s wishes, private family services will be held. A celebration of Ray’s Life will be announced in the Spring.

Memorial donations may be made to the Blue Ox Trail Riders or the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford, in Ray’s memory.
