Linda L. Spigarelli

Linda was born June 23, 1958, in Ironwood, daughter of the late Robert and Rose (Gironimi) Leskoviansky. She graduated from Ironwood High School in 1976 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in biology from Northern Michigan University.

Linda married Paul Spigarelli on Oct. 31, 1981, at St. Ambrose Church in Ironwood. She worked as a lab tech at Dickinson County Healthcare System for over 20 years.

Linda’s devoted family was with her every step of the way during her extremely rare and complicated battle with cancer. Linda’s fight to live carried her for eight years, six extra years to see grandchildren born and grow.

If Linda heard that it was time for any type of wild berry to be picked she was in the woods for hours, picking with her good friends, Lori or Annette. She always said berry picking was great therapy. She was an avid gardener and canner. Linda was also a wonderful baker, well known for her delicious Christmas cookies, and was a collector of unique items, which she displayed in her home over the years. It was always fun to go to Linda’s and see what was new in the house.

Music was another joy of Linda’s, and she loved all types of Christmas music. She and Paul went to many concerts and saw many of their favorite groups.

Linda also loved to go shopping. She could be indecisive at times and needed someone to say, “Yes, buy that! You will be sorry when you get home that you didn’t.” She had a very special relationship with her daughter Brooke, and they took many trips together. There were also years of Christmas shopping in Green Bay with her good friends.

Linda also loved to travel. She and Paul went to many places with their children, family, and friends. If you planned a trip and invited Linda to come, she was almost always a yes.

Another pastime for Linda was going to their cottage and camp. Countless hot summer days were spent at the cottage with family and friends on the pontoon boat. Linda loved camp in the fall, taking walks in the woods, playing cards, and the endless projects that she and Paul would do.

Over the years, Linda was active in her community. She was an usher at church, a member of Beta Sigma Nu Sorority, and involved with Pregnancy Services. She participated in the community school’s women’s volleyball league for 12 years. In the summer, she loved her bocce nights with partners Alfred and Donna and Andy and Norma.

Linda is survived by her husband of 40 years, Paul; a daughter, Brooke (Phillip) Minerick of Crystal Falls; two sons, Brett (Amanda) Spigarelli of Grand Rapids, Minn. and Brandon (Megan) Spigarelli of Eau Claire, Wis.; a brother, Brad (Nancy) Lesky of Iron Mountain; the joys of her life and the reason she fought so hard, her four grandchildren, Bria Minerick and Luca, Lydia and Sofia Spigarelli; her mother-in-law, Carol McCarty; sisters-in-law, Barb (Ray) Broullire, Peggy (Dan) Hansen and Jean (Rob) Mellon; brother-in-law, Tad Spigarelli; several nieces and nephews; and close friends, Mike and Lori Mellon, Steve and Annette Sabotta, Christine Randall and Kim and Chuck Miles.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Robert Scott Leskoviansky; her father-in-law, Tony Spigarelli; step father-in-law, Bill McCarty; brother-in-law, Bruce Spigarelli; and her dearest friend, Jill Mellon.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 21 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. A Memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
